Estero High School’s Early Childhood program is a unique preschool experience planned to benefit both the preschool child and the high school student.  Many students enrolled in this Career and Technical program have aspirations to work with children upon graduation.  Students begin in Early Childhood I, a textbook/lecture course that builds background with a specialized curriculum including topics on child development, identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect, preschool appropriate practices, rules and regulations of child care facilities, and health, safety and nutrition.  Students passing all module exams will earn state certification as a certified child care worker.

Levels II-IV of Early Childhood classes will spend their time operating the Little Wildcat preschool implementing lessons and promoting children’s cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development.  Under careful direction and supervision, high school students will experience a practical, hands-on learning experience.  The high school student-teachers will provide one-on-one attention to the preschoolers daily.  They also will have the opportunity to observe and apply various educational skills and theories as they teach and play with the children.  Students who take early Childhood Education coursework for at least three years are eligible for the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship.

If you have any questions regarding this wonderful and unique program, please contact Jan Doten in the Career and Technical Education Department.
