Attendance Policy

2023-2024

Attendance Agreement

As the 2023-2024 School Year kicks off, the Attendance Committee wants to relay some very important information regarding excused and unexcused absences, school tardiness, and potential credit denial for excessive abuse of the attendance policy.

SCHOOL ABSENCES

Per School District Policy 4.16 an Excused Absence consists of: Illness of the student, Illness of an immediate family member, Death in the immediate family, Religious instruction or religious holidays, Court appearances or subpoenas, Scheduled medical or dental appointments.

Estero High School will accept parent notes to Excuse 5 absences per semester. Beyond that, absences must be accompanied by proper documentation (Doctor/Dental notes, Hospital notes, Court subpoenas, immigration papers etc), to be marked as Excused.  Students will have 10 school days to turn in Parent notes to excuse absences. Formal documentation can be brought in at any time during the semester.

CREDIT DENIAL

Once a student exceeds 9 unexcused absences in a semester-per class, losing credit in any or all classes will come into play.  Credit denial letters will be sent at the end of the semester inviting the student and family in for a meeting to discuss attendance and review the credit retrieval process. Credit loss will be designated with an L next to the studentā€™s class in which credit was lost on their official report card.

TARDY TO SCHOOL

Per School District Policy 4.16, Tardiness is defined as a student not being in the classroom when the class is scheduled to begin. Habitual tardiness is defined as six or more tardies to school or to an individual class per Quarter.

Estero High School will accept parent notes to excuse 5 tardies per semester. Beyond that, tardies must be accompanied by proper documentation (Doctor/Dental notes, Hospital notes, Court subpoenas, immigration papers etc), to be marked as Excused.  Students will have 10 school days to turn in Parent notes to excuse absences. Formal documentation can be brought in at any time during the semester.

Once a student has accumulated 3 unexcused tardies in a quarter, per the code of conduct, the student will begin receiving discipline consequences. The discipline consequences will be as follows:

#4: lunch detention

#5-6: Cell phone contract

#7-8: One-hour after school detention

#9: Two hour after hours detention

10 and beyond: all day ISS
